A Murder of Innocents
Published in Paperback by Amer House (May, 2002)
Author: Michael Andrew
Average review score:

michael's mystery
Murder on Innocents held my attention from start to finish. The author has a friendly writing style that has you asking for more even at the book's end. When is the third novel coming to amazon?

A Sequel that Outperforms the Original
This book is a sequel to "A Trial of Innocents". If you liked that book, you will love this one. It is a courtroom/murder mystery, with a abortion ethics exposition inserted within. Mr. Andrew's handling of many different (converging toward the end) plot lines is adroit. The caution that I need to express is that this book has a number of violent passages. It is not suited for young readers, or the squeamish.

My $50,000 Year at the Races
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (September, 1978)
Author: Andrew Beyer
Average review score:

The Master Strikes Again
Beyer once again hammers home the fact that he's the Master of Masters, the Seer of Seers, and simply the best handicapper (and author) ever to come down the pike. His witticisms, combined with a rare insight and feel into the game, make this a true joy to read and behold. His love for horse racing comes through on every page, and as we take the trip with him into realizing his lifelong dream (which is many of ours as well, I'd venture), his joy is palpable. Since the time of his writing this tome, of course, the game has become even more difficult for pure Speed Handicappers, due to the immense popularity (and success) of his now world-renowned Beyer Speed Figs, but that just adds to the pleasure. A must for any 'capper, and even for those who just enjoy great writing!

The book for one who wants to live at the windows.
Mr. Beyer takes us thru his year of betting the horses. This is the year he finally realizes his goal of becoming a full time player. I first read this book as a teenager and have been hooked on the game ever since. I might not agree with all his methods of betting but the book is a very enjoyable read.

My Name Is Andy But! You! May Call Me Andrew

Finally! A Book Of Pure Enjoyment, Entertainment and Fun!!!
I cannot remember the last time I read something that taught me nothing except how to have a good laugh. MY NAME IS ANDY BUT! YOU! MAY CALL ME ANDREW, is written by a dog with a definite attitude, explaing to the reader about life, entirely from his point of view. Andy's always doing unusual, incredibly funny things that seem outstanding, when you consider that this is a non-fiction book. He also dwells, momentarily, on his fellings about not being the best he could be but quickly pushes those thoughts aside while looking for another project to emBARK upon. I am always in search of a humorous book that fits in a pocket or purse and can go anyywhere. No matter what page you open it too, you are assured a good time, not only in words, but also in fabulous illustrations. This is not what I would call a children's book since they might not understand the innuendos and the shananigan's of a dog of this nature. Just thinking about some of the things I read makes me want to stop what I'm doing and pick it up for a quick refreshing treat.

My name is Andy But! You may call me Andrew
If you are looking for a fun, whimsical read this book is it!! All dog lovers will be enthralled with the tough minded little bit of fur with a big voice and even sharper teeth. You don't even have to like animals to fallin love with Andy.Great gift for anyone with a sense of humour.

The Naval War of 1812 (Chatham Pictorial Histories)
Published in Hardcover by Gerald Duckworth & Co. Ltd (26 November, 1998)
Authors: Andrew et al Lambert and Robert Gardiner
Average review score:

Excellent
Excellent book. Unfortunately it is brief, I wish it were 2 or 3 volumes. The information presented has been prepared by masters in their field. This book will have you researching more on the topics covered, because the topics are short yet powerful enough for you to want to know more.

The book also has short subjects on each of the British class of ship, but oddly one of the major classes is absent.

Fighting Afloat
This may first appear to be nothing but one of those historical 'picture books' and it is profusely illustrated, but it is much more than that. Well-research, historically correct text, and well-organized, it is one of the best books on the topic on the market today.

Robert Gardiner continues his study of naval warfare in the age of sail with this excellent study, covering the war at sea, the war on the lakes, privateers, and the arsoniistic adventures of the British Admirals, Cockburn and Cochrane, up and down the Chesapeake and the eastern seaboard of the United States, although this last is somewhat played down.

The early American frigate victories, the frantic shipbuilding and fighting on the Great Lakes, the sloop duels in the open sea, Porter's adventures in the pacific aboard the USS Essex, Lawrence losing the USS Chesapeake to HMS Shannon, while uttering the famous, 'Don't give up the ship!' which Perry later uses as his battle cry at the victory on Lake Erie, the famous and profitable voyages of the American privateer Prince de Neuchatel (a superb model of which is in the Smithsonian, by the way), all are thoroughly and colorfully covered in this must have volume on a little studied war.

It is in larger than normal format, and looks something like a coffee table book, but don't be fooled. The narrative is exciting, facts not commonly in evidence are chronicled here, and the illustrations are superb. This is a must buy and a must have.

Nelson Jackson: Cowboy
Published in Hardcover by Directions Production Services Inc (October, 1997)
Authors: Lawanda Randall and Andrew Link
Average review score:

Wonderfully illustrated and a ingenious work.
This book is incredible. I love the way that it is illustrated and captures that particular time period of Nelson Jackson's life. I'm particularly fond of the history of how it all started, with older guys who are mentioned in the books. I believe it gives compensation so to speak to the men who came before Nelson and gives dreams to young ones who could accomplish being a cowboy as well. I have great respect for his children though, who no doubt sacrificed much not having a lot of material possessions as they could have, had their father not have made the choices he did to be a cowboy. However these children, that are pictured in this creative work have gone on to achieve much success of their own. They too have acquired many skills where training and riding are concerned. I'm impressed with the accomplishments of the older daughter Cynthia. I read about her years ago, in a sport page where there was a rodeo in Chicago and her sisters. They always seems to come in first, second and third. No don't they had great training in being competitive and at the same time compassionate for their counter parts. I highly recommend getting this publication, not only for your personal library, but it would make a lovely gift for any young person. The book is well written and illustrated nicely. Great job to the author. Truly a great story of history, and talent of this particular cowboy as well as his family. Awesome!

Nelson Jackson - Cowboy
I found this book to not only be educational, but also inspiring for young people. It gives you information crucial to understanding some of the equipment use in rodeo life, as well as indoctrinate young children on the history of one man's spirit. I contemplate that this book, NELSON JACKSON - COWBOY will inspire many children and adults to enjoy horses and the whole rodeo atmosphere while gaining a deeper respect for those who make sacrifices to live out their dreams. This is a book which will allow many to sit back and enjoy history if you will, while at the same time attaining an appreciation for all who make up America. I will continue to enjoy this book, for years to come.

The New Oxford Book of Carols
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (September, 1998)
Authors: Hugh Keyte, Andrew Parrott, and Clifford Bartlett
Average review score:

This is the most thorough carol book that I have ever read.
This book should be in the household of anyone who listens to Christmas music, whether or not they can actually sing. Although I do not read music, my sister does, and we were able to learn a carol that I had heard on a Christmas CD and perform it as a duet at Midnight Mass.

Invaluable excursion into the contours of popular piety
The New Oxford Book of Carols makes available an extraordinarily rich collection materials that bear witness to the resilience of the traditions of popular piety. These "carols", along with their editorial, historical and performance annotations, provide a rich insight to paths by which complex theological materials were filtered, tranformed and made personal expressions of great beauty and joy. Re-presents materials lost, forgotten, or discarded in a clear, simple, and readily performable format. Performance notes are specific, and clearly systematized.

Nobody Listens to Andrew
Published in Paperback by Modern Curriculum Press (September, 1989)
Author: Elizabeth Guilfoile
Average review score:

My favorite book as a child
This was my favorite book when I was little. I read it over and over again. Obviouslly having the same name made it mine but I think it has to do with the theme of being ignored. I am sure my family would say it is because I talked all the time. I like that Andrew was right all along and that everyone should have listened to him. I think kids today would indentify with this in light of how fast-past and distracted we are as adults. But buy the cheaper version. Who is their right mind would pay over $100 for a kid's book?

All about self-esteem and confidence
I read this book more than thirty years ago, and I still remember it, because I identified with Andrew so much. Andrew has something important to say, something he knows is true and valid and urgent. But for the life of him, he can't get any grown-ups to pay attention to him. They are all too busy, too numb and on remote-control, and could care less what a kid has to say

Andrew finally manages to get himself heard after a great deal of effort, and the whole town finally realizes that he has been right all along. It's a great book, but it shouldn't be $101.56, for Pete's sake!

A high quality work of art.
This collection of "comic" stories from various artists is a beautiful work of art. The quality of the book is wonderful, the color and print is strong. It is a great book to have in a collection. I'm sure some of these artists will go far, if they haven't done so already. I would love to see more of there individual work.

Great variety of artistic styles, beautifully printed!
This is a high quality collection of illustrated stories. All of the artists have very different styles. The print and color quality is amazing.
